Regulation (EU) No. 995/2010 and its subsequent secondary legislation are also referred to, for short, as the EUTR (European Timber Regulation) or, in Italy, the “Due Diligence Regulation” or “Timber Regulation.”
Since 3 March 2013, the Regulation has been fully applicable in all 28 European Union member states, aiming to raise the legality standards of the EU timber and timber products market through the adoption of due diligence systems.
The obligation to implement measures and procedures to minimize the risk that timber placed on the EU market is of illegal origin (due diligence) lies with entities classified by the Regulation as “Operators,” meaning those who first place timber or timber products (including paper and pulp) on the EU market, such as importers from non-EU countries, forestry businesses, and similar operators.
From the outset, Conlegno embraced the challenge of the EUTR: combating deforestation and promoting a market for legally sourced timber and timber products that do not harm the environment or the socio-economic conditions of exporting countries.
On 19 August 2013, Conlegno was recognized by the European Commission as a Monitoring Organisation: our responsibility is your guarantee.
